Make your future today

‘The small self worries about temporary conditions, not realizing they were set in motion by conditions of the past and are already beginning to change’ - extract from Unchartered by Colette Baron Reid.

I have been watching more television in lockdown than I would normally do and have enjoyed films including; Stoker and The Guernsey literary and potato peel pie society and series including; The Fall and It’s a Sin. Whenever I watch a film or series which I consider to be cleverly written and produced, it fills me with excitement and inspires the creative part of my brain, reminding me that one day I will write a book. In the midst of such musings, part of me felt sad that the current pandemic has limited the opportunities for production, but then I thought about people in isolation and lockdown and how the many creative people the world over will be using this opportunity to do what they do best, be creative! and that in time we will see the results.

Not long afterwards I noticed a friend's sister on Facebook was learning to play the guitar. She is already a brilliant singer and we have enjoyed many great nights out listening to her perform in local bars and pubs. At some point the world will open again and she will bounce back, bigger and stronger than ever. What a great example of my thoughts.

We can never go back to how things were, the world continues to move forward. The pandemic has changed how we live and it will continue to change. We can choose to mourn for the life we used to have and waste our time wishing it back and this time next year wonder why some people are having all the luck, or we can be those people, we can keep moving forward, we can try new things and create our own tomorrow.

I came across the extract at the beginning of this blog and I will repeat it below. One day today will be the past, did you use it mindfully?
