A smile a day keeps negative thoughts away!

We all know a smiley person, you might be one of them. When we see someone smiling it brightens our day and can make us smile too. When we smile, we make other people smile. We call this 'passing on a smile!' and often encourage children to try this too, cat posture is a great way to pass a smile round the circle in happy cat. Smiling is linked to happiness, the contraction of the smiling muscles in our face create a positive feedback loop to the brain, stimulating our reward

    Hugs are back!!!

From 17th May we are allowed to hug or ‘cautious cuddle’ this is great for me as it’s also my birthday!!!! But did you know that hugging is really important for our mental health and wellbeing? When we hug the love hormone oxytocin is released creating a feeling of warmth, contentment, devotion, trust and bonding. When we hug, we invite people into our personal space, these are people we usually feel safe with.  Hugging can communicate to a person how much you love them, supp

Teaching yoga and mindfulness to children -essential toolbox

There are four main items we always have in our tool box when teaching yoga to children. Chimes, a hoberman sphere, a singing bowl and some sand timers. Chimes Chimes are a brilliant way to get children's attention and spark their curiosity the first time they see them, miniature versions such as these are perfect for little hands and develop fine motor skills needed to hold the strings and co-ordinate bringing the cymbals together to make the sound. Why our promise is Kind Heart - Kind Words - Kind Thoughts

Part of the Yoginis Yoga Training mission is to spread kindness. Why did we choose kindness out of all the other attributes available? Because kindness is the secret to happiness. Kindness is the vein that runs through everything we produce as a business and is even the acronym of the values we use when designing and delivering our courses. Giving and receiving kindness has significant physical effects on the body. It is a demonstration of the mind body connection. When our m

    Make your future today

‘The small self worries about temporary conditions, not realizing they were set in motion by conditions of the past and are already beginning to change’ - extract from Unchartered by Colette Baron Reid. I have been watching more television in lockdown than I would normally do and have enjoyed films including; Stoker and The Guernsey literary and potato peel pie society and series including; The Fall and It’s a Sin. Whenever I watch a film or series which I consider to be clev

The story of the small mind, the great mind, the dragon and the curtain!

I, like many of you, listen to the Prime Minister’s announcements and wonder how my life, the lives of my family and friends and my business will be impacted. Some nights my mind becomes flooded with thoughts, doubts and uncertainties to threaten my sense of calm and restful sleep. Through my years of yoga and mindfulness practice, I am able to use techniques to slow these thoughts, to recognise them as just thoughts and to drop into sleep. It is normal for these thoughts to

    Intuition calling!!

“Knock, knock” “Who’s there?” “Intuition” Silence followed. Intuition sat back, it was used to being ignored. Perhaps it was becoming superfluous to requirements, like the appendix, a useless pouch projecting from the colon or the appendix of a manuscript, full of useful information but rarely consulted. Then a small voice somewhere in the darkness came back “Intuition who?” It was I Intuition sprang forward like a dog glad to see its master home after a long day. Intuition t

SEND children can with 'Yoginis Yoga' all-inclusive programmes

Studies have found that children with SEND are more unlikely to be engaged in physical activity than their peers, and in general they have poorer physical health outcomes. The benefits of regular physical activity are important as are the skills which accompany this such as mental well-being, problem solving and concentration. Specialist SEND practitioners shared with us some of the obstacles SEND children face when considering engaging in physical activity; getting changed,

Mental Health Awareness Week - Body Image

Creating Happy Healthy Content Children in Early Years Body image is a term that we often hear, but have you ever stopped to ask yourself what this actually means?. Wikipedia defines body image as ‘a person’s perception of the aesthetics or sexual attractiveness of their own body. It involves how a person sees themselves compared to the standards that have been set by society’. Having a healthy body image is important to overall wellbeing and builds positive habits in relatio

    Who am I?

"Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self" - The Bhagavad Gita For a sentence that only involves using 8 words, this might sound as complex as trying to navigate an ordnance survey map! What does self mean? a google search brings up the definition 'a person's essential being that distinguishes them from others, especially considered as the object of introspection or reflexive action' alternative words might be 'soul, spirit, mind, intellect, identity and

Sleep lessons in schools - how yoga can support sleep

Children in the UK are having trouble sleeping, with more and more young people being diagnosed with sleep disorders. But help is on hand, as schoolchildren across the country may be offered help with sleep, since specialist lessons became available to teachers at the end of 2018. The lessons will be taught as part of PSHE and have been developed by the department for sleep medicine at Evelina London Children's Hospital. This dedicated learning time will equip children with s

    Mindfulness - whats the hurry?

Do you recognise this dialogue? "You heard of this thing, the 8 minute abs?" "Yeah sure 8 minute abs. Yeah the exercise video" "Yeah, this is going to blow that right out of the water. Listen to this:..........7 minute abs!" This makes me chuckle every time I watch 'There's Something About Mary', but the reality is, in the western world speed is king. Consider wi-fi speed, speedy boarding, same day delivery, getting from A to B as quick as possible, fast food, lose a stone in
